Why We Started
In the fall of 2021, we felt compelled to take action to address the very serious problem of local childhood hunger. Here on Long Island, there are around 70,000 children who fit the criteria for food insecurity at home.
The Plan
We formed Agape Meals for Kids to provide food for these children. Our plan is to provide backpacks with kid-friendly, easy-to-make, meals that food insecure children take home each Friday. On a Friday in December 2021, we delivered the first 137 weekend bags.
What we Know
Having food every day helps children learn better, experience less distress, and have a lower risk of illness. No child should have to experience the pain of hunger. That's why we're committed to ensuring that these children can count on having food when they're not in school. It allows them to better focus while in school, have a better quality of life, and have a chance at a better future.
